The right colour scheme has the potential to lighten a dark room, make a small room feel bigger or create a sense of intimacy in a larger space.

When faced with endless paint charts and swatches, choosing the right shade of paint for the rooms of your home can sometimes seem to be an overwhelming task. Which is why we’ve done all the hard work for and put together a guide for choosing the perfect paint colours for your space.

Find Inspiration

One of the most important considerations is how you want your rooms to look and feel. We recommend gathering inspiration from as many sources as you can, so start keeping an eye on magazines, catalogues and places like Pinterest which are great for creating moodboards.

Use Colour Theory to Create a Colour Scheme

If you’re not confident with embracing colour, choosing it and using it can be hard. We recommend playing around with a colour wheel to familiarise yourself with different colours and how they relate to one another. Once you feel more confident with your choices, you can start to create palettes with your favourite shades to take into your local paint shop. Get started here.

Consider The Role of Natural Light

Light has a big impact on how paint colour really looks, so it’s important to know how it works in the rooms you’re painting.  Incandescent light is great for bringing out warm tones while fluorescent light is great for bringing out tones of blue.

We suggest using a test pot to paint a large card to move around at different times of the day to see what the colour looks like in full sun, diffused light and artificial lighting.

Pay Attention to Surface Texture

The surface of your walls will also have an impact on the final colour result. This is because different textures affect how light is absorbed and reflected. For example, a textured wall can give a colour more depth. It can also often give a more natural look to the colour.

Armed with this knowledge, you’re ready to take the colour leap! If you can see a future for you or your family at Beenyup Grove, feel free to get in touch with our team who would love to chat to you about available house and land packages.
